Chef Official Movie Trailer

If you like food – great food – then May 9th, 2014, should probably be circled on your calendar.  Or since 99% of us aged 40 and younger probably don’t actually have physical calendars hanging on our kitchen walls anymore, go ahead and add it to your iPhone and Outlook calendars, because the new Jon Favreau movie called Chef awaits.  Starring an impressive cast list that features Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Oliver Platt, and the legendary Dustin Hoffman, Chef pits Jon Favreau’s main character in a tricky employment situation that likely many of us have already or will face at some point in our lives: working for someone else, or taking a chance and starting his own business, which in this case is a food truck.  While this movie screams high quality date night material, there are sure to be plenty of laughs if you want to see this with friends; regardless, enjoy the official Chef trailer and then hit the link below for more!

iOS Games We Like: Monument Valley

Monument Valley for iOS is a game we definitely like! SlightlyQualified.com

Have you ever felt a little overwhelmed with the ridiculous amount of volume in the Apple App Store when searching for a new go-to iOS game?  You aren’t alone – there are countless rehashes of essentially the exact same game, whether it’s a running side-scroller title or name-the-new-RTS game, they are basically the same old thing under a different coat of paint.  Once you jump into it the new paint begins to fade and boredom sets in; minutes or hours later the game is deleted, and it will probably be even longer until you visit the store for yet another fruitless search.  That’s where SQ comes in: we weed through the metric truckloads of garbage apps to find you the best of the best – free and paid – so you can spend your hard-earned free time enjoying only the best high quality iOS games and apps.  Our latest gem just happens to be the iOS game of the week, and although the store’s “game of the week” doesn’t always impress, Monument Valley does.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Week 1 Sales Tops 2.7 Million

Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls Sells a Whopping 2.7 Million Units in Week 1 - SlightlyQualified.com

Many game publishers would be thrilled after selling 2.7 million copies of their latest title in a month, but Blizzard is not your average video game publisher.  In their latest press release, Blizzard announced some impressive week one sales for their first Diablo III expansion pack, Reaper of Souls, with sales topping an incredible 2.7 million units.  As a proud owner of this excellent expansion pack myself, I couldn’t be happier, and I would argue that it is well-worth the somewhat steep asking price of $40.  That being said, let’s put on our business hats and see what kind of week one revenue the D3 division is staring at!  Hit the link below for the details!

Game of Thrones Video: Every Death in 3 Minutes

In my opinion HBO is the king of quality television.  From Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage, to the insanely-addicting and ever-so-violent Game of Thrones, the premium cable network just continually surpasses my expectations.  While I am sadly behind on my Game of Thrones episodes, it is a show that is quite possibly the best on television, period.  I remember nearly three years ago watching the show On Demand for the very first time, and thinking to myself as I fired up the sixth of seventh episode that I still couldn’t believe that I couldn’t keep up with all of the character’s names and relationships – the show, and the setting was that massive, but it was so damn good I didn’t even care.  Next up for me are the books – not to mention catching up on the show; next up for you is this awesome video, which showcases every single on-screen Game of Thrones death in less than 3 minutes.  Enjoy, and as always, more after the link.

Hilarious FedEx Driver Caught on Camera

Delivery companies like UPS and FedEx take pride in their clean, always pressed uniforms and timely delivery, and unlike the failing US Postal Service, they almost always live up to their high expectations.  Every once in a while however, the standard slips a bit and a FedEx driver does something that probably resulted in him losing his job.  Thankfully, it appeared that no one was hurt in this hilarious security cam video – I will leave the details at that, as I don’t want to spoil this one.  Enjoy this great video – more slightly qualified thoughts after the link!

The Easiest Way to Prepare Physically for Marine Corps Boot Camp

Marine Corps Pull-ups

You just got home from the Marine Corps recruiting office, and your ship date for boot camp is 100 days out – there’s only one problem.  You can only do 3 dead hang pull ups.  Or your body fat percentage is borderline unauthorized for your height.  Or you are barely clearing 24 minutes on your 3 mile run.  Can’t do 100 crunches?  You get the point.  Marine Corps recruits have a higher standard than the other service branches: they all understand that the title of Marine is earned, and never – and I mean never – given.  If you can’t perform the bare minimum physical fitness – or academic, character, etc – standards, then you’ll get rolled into the next class.  If you keep the poor performance going, then the Army would love to have you.  So what’s the easiest way then to prepare for three months of physical and mental hell?  The answer will surprise you.

Goodbye World Movie Trailer

What are up to this Friday night?  If you’re looking for something different, then head on over to your local theater to catch the brand new Vinny Chase – I mean Adrian Grenier – film, Goodbye World.  Although I will likely forever associate Mr. Grenier as the Entourage movie star, his latest movie that’s due out this Friday has some real potential: set in present day, America is hit by a disastrous computer virus called, coincidentally, “Goodbye World”.  With utilities, airports, and just about everything imaginable shut down, Vinny and his close friends fall back on their post-apocalyptic survival skills and go off-grid somewhere in Northern California.  Everything seems like a cool camping trick until local militias start forming, which is where it appears this plot is going. Check out the trailer, and hit the link below for more slightly qualified movie trailer discussion!

GameStop Ignores Reality, Plans for 300-400 More Stores

Has the retail onslaught that the likes of eBay and Amazon have brought forth over the last decade or so taught anything to the likes of big box retailers?  What about the fact that I can more easily, not to mention more conveniently purchase and download a new PS3 or PS4 game without even having to leave my fancy, fake-leather couch?  Market disruptions are nothing new, and new ideas and new technology has always forced agile businesses into pivots, whether they liked it or not.  Some companies however, still don’t seem to accept the reality of the market that is moving around them, and by some companies I mean GameStop.  Just recently – yesterday in fact – Paul Raines, GameStop’s Chief Executive Officer, announced “that the company plans that to open 300 to 400 retail locations which will have a focus outside of games”.  (SeekingAlpha, 28 March) Yeah, I’m scratching my head too – more brick and mortar overhead, and lots of it, but not to sell games.  Rather, these new store shelves will house smart phones and wearable technology products.  Still confused?  So am I.

BaneCat Has Arrived – Must See Video

So I’m not going to lie – I’m not a huge fan of cats.  I have always loved dogs, and while I don’t hate cats – I don’t really mind them. What is weird however is how the freaks on both sides of the house animal pet wars tend to get a little weird when it comes to social media, whether they create a “hilarious” Facebook page for their pug, or blog about what their cat did in the living room after dinner. There are always some exceptions however, like Grumpy Cat, and Beethoven – the ginormous, crime stopping dog, not the musician, but that’s about it, and I mean throughout the entire history of cats and dogs (Benji just missed the cut, sorry pooch).  There is however a newcomer to the list, and his name is BaneCat.  Folks, this is a must-see cat video, which is something you will probably never ever ever see me write on SQ ever again.  Ever.

The Signal Movie Trailer

Raise your hand if this kind of movie sounds appealing to you: Sci-fi, Laurence Fishburne, and lots of M-4’s (that’s AR’s for all my civilian counterparts out there).  No, this isn’t another Battle for Los Angeles – which was a great movie nonetheless – or even another Starship Troopers Redux.  The name of this intriguing Summer 2014 potential blockbuster is The Signal, and the exciting trailer above gives us enough information to want more, but not enough to truly know what we’re, or Nic, the main character is dealing with. As a huge fan of sci-fi, as well as Mr. Fishburne’s acting resume – not to mention M-4’s! – The Signal looks like it has potential to be an awesome film.  Want the specific release date and more details on the plot?  Of course you do – hit the link below for more.

Deconstructed Game Controllers

Now this is pretty neat.  While many of us have likely already peered inside some of our favorite game controllers growing up, it probably wasn’t due to taking them carefully apart with a screwdriver – so what if we’ve all smashed a few in a fit of rage?  That’s totally normal, plus you couldn’t save in pretty much any video game back in the 80’s, so what else were we supposed to do?  I digress.  Hit the link below for all the deconstruction photos, and see if you can correctly identify which system each controller belongs to; if you can’t, you were likely born in the 90’s.  Oh, and I’ll help all you young bloods out a little by putting them in chronological order, with the oldest ones first.  And GO!

Dear Pixel People, I’m Moving On

Dear Pixel People, I'm Moving On

For the past year here at SQ we have highlighted some of our favorite, and the mobile gaming industry’s favorite iOS games, from Ridiculous Fishing (2013 GOTY award winner) to Mutant Mudds.  One game that we have not mentioned however, is a dangerously addictive title called Pixel People.  Released almost a year ago on January 31st, 2013, Pixel People is a very cool cross between Sim City and The Sims, and has garnered an immense following on the App Store with some excellent reviews.  Is it a great game?  Yes, phenomenal even – but I had to recently banish it from my iPhone for one huge reason with the game’s design.  It was a sad day, but a necessary one.  Hit the linkage below for the full break-up letter.
