Eternal Darkness Sequel Possibly (Hopefully) Coming

Shadow of the Eternals

This Monday a new crowdfund will launch from the hands of some of the original creators of the epic, survival-horror GameCube game, Eternal Darkness, with the hopes that they will be able to fund raise  or “crowdfund”, enough cash to build what the entire fan base has been aching for since 2002: an Eternal Darkness sequel.  The good news is that this does not appear to be fake, as the creator’s have formed a new, legalized development company called Precursor games, and they’ve already published a sneak peak to the proposed sequel, which will be called “Shadow of the Eternals”.  Hit the link below for the official trailer, and more info on this exciting new crowdfund!

Red 2 Movie Trailer

Everyone has at least one or two movies that you weren’t able to catch in theaters, and for whatever reason they still remain elusive.  Red, which originally debuted in 2010 and starred Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, is one of those movies, and now I am in “urgent watch” mode because Red 2, with its official trailer above, will hit theaters this coming July.  There’s still plenty of time, but this now series looks too good to pass up.  John Malkovich looks hysterical, and Anthony Hopkins looks like he may be making a Tom Cruise/Les Grossman cameo/supporting actor … okay, maybe not Les Grossman-good, but it looks like Hannibal Lector may be stealing the show.  Looking forward to July!

Infographic: A Positive View on Gaming

Violent Crime and Violent Video Game Sales

Infographics are all the craze on the Interweb right now, and while that may possibly be the most obvious statement of the year thus far, I don’t care.  That’s why we incorporated the word “slightly” into our name; it’s like a free get out of jail card after saying something stupid.  “Well your Honor, I never said I was qualified, only ‘slightly qualified‘.”  Where were we?  Ah yes, infographics.  Where the two glorious fields of statistics and graphic design come together for all to enjoy.  Today’s visual statistic display takes a positive view on gaming, which sadly, is not done enough.  Hit the link below, and cheer up!  You’re only at the coolest website ever.

How a Gamer Welcomes Santa Claus

Your Bed Is a Car - SlightlyQualified.com

Gamers are a creative demographic, and when you throw in the fact that many of their mother’s are world class quilters, you’ve got a recipe for nerdiness that would make even Santa Claus face-palm.  What would rank even higher on the nerdiness scale is if said gamer is also a world class quilter; or better yet, said gamer and said world class quilter is also a mother.  Oh snap!  Before I give this retro-ly (I’m making up words left and right today) awesome, funny gaming pic away, hit the link below and you’ll see what I’m talking about.  You will not be disappointed.

What’s the Worst Thing About Online Gaming?

Worst Thing About Online Gaming Family Feud - SQ

This question will make our gamers out there in SQ Nation chuckle out loud; I know I did.  There are just too many things that come to mind that you could argue.  Profanity?  The lack of maturity?  Camping?  “Your mom” jokes?  Lag?  I think I could come up with 100 different things that blow orifices about online gaming, and I think you could too.  Although I mostly reach for the single player venues currently, via Demon’s Souls and Diablo 3, I do jump into the StarCraft 2 arena pretty frequently, although I’m still learning.  Gone are the days when I used to destroy people online in Red Alert, and don’t even get me started about Goldeneye.  Hit the link below for a hilarious take on one gamer’s position on what the worst aspect about online gaming is.  I think most of us will be able to relate!

Podcasts We Like: Chairborne Commandos

Chairborne Commandos Podcast Is Great - SlightlyQualified.com

My post-active Marine Corps career has brought me to the oil and gas industry down south, and on the road quite a bit.  Over the last six weeks in my F-150, I’ve driven back and forth from Houston to Oklahoma City, OK, Arcadia, LA (yeah, I had to Google Map that one too), and Longview, TX.  Throw in all sorts of random well site locations out in the middle of nowhere, USA, and my chariot is already calling for another oil change.  When I loaded my iPhone a couple months ago, I figured I had enough music to keep me going for a year on the road; it turns out I was wrong.  It only lasted about 4 hours on shuffle.  Well the radio is out; the only stations you can pick up in Somewhere, OK, are a single country station, and 1,000 different flavors of static.  So I turned to my iPhone’s podcast app, and looked at the discovery/popular tab, and that’s when I met the Chairborne Commandos.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Confirmed; Release Date Set

COD Ghosts at SlightlyQualified.com

The rumors were right, and now we have an official release date.  Call of Duty: Ghosts will hit store shelves in, wait for it, November of this year.  Yes, November.  Pretty shocking, isn’t it?  /sarcasm.  The official release date is November 5th, and according to the poster below, appears to keep the modern, SOF-approach that appears to never get old with the COD audience.  Who remembers the original Call of Duty for PC, where the sound was so real it felt like you were actually in Germany?  I digress; hit the link below for the official Ghosts game poster, and if you want more on Ghosts, expect more from Activision tomorrow.

Who Remembers the Nintendo Power Mullet Kid?

N64 Kid Picture - SlightlyQualified.com

So who remembers the mullet kid from Nintendo Power?  Okay, hold on; maybe I should take a step back here.  Who remembers Nintendo Power?  Anyone?  Bueller?  If you’re too young to remember the awesomeness that was Nintendo’s “Nintendo Power” magazine, then I’m sorry because you honestly missed out.  This was long before the days where you had awesome websites like SQ around; we kids had to wait four weeks in between issues, and let me tell you, when you’re trying to beat Battletoads, those maps that magazine had were priceless.  I remember my original Nintendo Power subscription came with a free game; I got to choose one of three games, and though I can’t remember the other two, I ended up picking Dragon Warrior.  Awesome game aside, do you want to know what else I remember from that first subscription to Nintendo Power?  That mullet kid who had the coolest room in the world.  And a turtleneck t-shirt.  Hit the link below for pure nostalgia, and/or laughter regardless of what age you are.

Funny Picture: And So It Begins

Funny Picture Virtual Reality Matrix - SlightlyQualified.com

People have been picking days on the calendar to be the “end of the world” for centuries now, so I think humanity is kind of immune to them.  The Mayans maybe had the biggest following, but look how that one ended up: we’re all still here, and the six of you that read this secretly awesome website are happy and well.  Hollywood has of course done their part over the years, as global doom will certainly sell movie tickets, however today we look back at probably the coolest movie of 1997, when your’s truly was a freshman in high school, and the six of you were, well, I have no idea (we suck at keeping demographics at this point).  Hit the link below for the full funny picture!

24 Things That Prove Video Games Are All Grown Up

Legend of Zelda - SlightlyQualified.com

It’s sad to think about, but I turn the fresh young age of 30 in approximately three weeks.  I’ve been gaming for just about every single one of those years since my original spawn in 1983, and it started with many of the games/systems on the hilariously nostalgic list below. I’m looking forward (in a weird way) to the day when I’m 60, to see what the average “gaming age” will be then; it will be like the jokes that started on Facebook a few years ago that asked the question, “What happens when we all start getting old?”  Awesome photo roll below that’s sure to make your Tuesday less crappy!

How to Become a Marine Corps Scout Sniper

Marine Scout Sniper in Iraq - SlightlyQualified.com

In my four years as a Marine Corps officer, I had many young Marines tell me they had originally enlisted with the Marine Corps because they wanted to become a scout sniper.  I have also fielded a handful of phone calls from friends of family whose sons are interested in enlisting, with many of those as well wanting to earn the title, scout sniper.  I bring this up because I feel that I am slightly qualified; no, I am not a scout sniper.  I was a scout sniper platoon commander however, and have been through Scout Sniper Platoon Commander’s course.  I also have had the grueling opportunity to attend Scout Sniper Basic Course, which is the venue where enlisted Marines, and sometimes Navy SEALs, Soldiers, and even Navy Corpsmen get the chance to become Marine scout snipers.  I will tell you that school is as physically demanding as Infantry Officers Course, which has been in the news recently, although it doesn’t hold a candle mentally.  Regardless, I didn’t make the cut; I fell three shots short on the known distance range to be exact, and it’s a credit to those who do qualify to truly earn the title.  I passed every other phase, to include stalking, but that’s not good enough, and I don’t want to cut corners.  Not everyone can be a Marine scout sniper, but lots of young men and women are interested in the true path to earning their own hog’s tooth; quietly hit the link below for my best advice to everyone/anyone interested in this elite path.
