What happens when you fuse the epic HBO fantasy miniseries Game of Thrones with the SNES‘ legendary flagship title Super Mario World? You get a freaking masterpiece, that’s what you get! While the above must-see video only covers the intro theme music to Game of Thrones, the quality is out of this world – both in sound and in visuals (Super Mario World’s map really was the perfect choice) – and already has me humming this retro, 16-bit remix in my head, probably all the way to work and back today. If you’re a fan of either GoT or stellar retro video games – which we are both – then you need to watch this video. As in right gosh darn now.
Super Mario World Game of Thrones Video
First off, I need to give credit to the wizard film creator that conjured up this awesome video: NicksplosionFX. You sir, are a talented individual, and for this Super Mario World / Game of Thrones remix video you deserve an electronic high-five from SQ Nation. You have made us all smile on Monday morning (it’s 5:40a here in Houston, sadly), and that warrants a medal – but since I don’t have a medal, please accept this notional high-five in lieu of the award.
Before hitting play on this epic video, I was a little worried that this was going to try and use actual Super Mario World game play to go into mock Game of Thrones dialogue, and I am really glad that didn’t happen. It’s not that I don’t think it could have been pulled off – especially now in hindsight seeing what Mr. NicksplosionFX can do – but I think it would’ve been a case of trying to do too much. The above video – which focuses just on the intro theme music to Game of Thrones – was the way to go: it kept it simple, and it really delivered in the end.
Guess who’s pulling out his SNES this weekend to fire up some Super Mario World and Link to the Past? This guy! Amazing video – we’re going to keep tabs on more from this creator – stay tuned at SQ for more, and have a great Monday!
Legendary!
